Cycle and Walking to the RUH
I am a patient/visitor to the RUH, which cycle facilities can I use?
There is a specially designated covered cycle shelter outside the main entrance of the hospital, on the left hand side. At present, there are no shower or locker facilities available for members of the public.
Is there a dedicated cycle track on the hospital site?
Yes, there is a split pedestrian and cycle track leading from Evelyn Road, up to the new NICU/staff carpark. The cycle track is indicated on the Cycle stores map as a line of red dots.
Cycle storage facilities
The Projects Team have increased the amount of cycle storage across the site, supported by improved showering and changing facilities.
Work took place in January 2010 to install a number of cycle hoops and covered cycle storage across the site, In addition to this, in Spring 2012 a bid approved by B&NES council funded the Projects Team to provide yet more covered cycle storage across the site.
New cycle shelters have been located outside the new NICU, and by the pond, near to the Consultant’s car park.
The Oasis is the main hub for cyclists. There are eight new refurbished showers (4 male, 4 female), as well as a dedicated staff swipe access locker room and secure staff swipe access cycle compound opposite.
Cycle storage is also covered by local CCTV systems.
We hope everyone enjoys the new facilities and is inspired to take up cycling, walking or jogging into work every day, and enjoy a healthier lifestyle.
