Urgent advice and On-call Geriatrician
The Older People's Unit carries out a separate on-call rota from the rest of the medical division, and therefore there is always a Geriatrician on-call for patient advice and reviews as needed. We are happy to discuss patients with other teams within the hospital, or with GPs, especially around the area of admission avoidance.
There is also an advice line for urgent queries. The phone is held by one of the secretaries who will take a message and arrange for a call-back from the most appropriate member of the team. Additionally we have an email account which is checked daily by the secretaries and queries forwarded to the most appropriate person for response.
