Syringe Drivers
Syringe Drivers
Syringe drivers are small battery operated devices that are used in palliative care for giving medication in a continuous subcutaneous infusion (CSCI). This can be helpful for some patients who are unable to tolerate or absorb medication orally.
In the RUH, the CME T34 syringe driver is used to administer subcutaneous medications for symptom management in palliative and end of life care.
If a patient is being discharged with a syringe driver, the ward team will contact the district nurse or nursing home manager early to discuss anticipated transfer of a patient with a syringe driver.
