Spiritual Care

Spiritual Care (sometimes called 'chaplaincy' or 'pastoral, spiritual and religious care') focuses on the broad issues of meaning, purpose and value, whether or not these are expressed through religious faith or not. Spiritual Care is available to staff of all backgrounds and beliefs, regardless of whether those beliefs relate to a formal 'religion'.

Spiritual Care is responsive service, meeting people where they are (for example, at their place of work) and in a timely manner (usually the same day). We have a non-directive approach, in style, format and content: we are directed by whatever you tell us matters to you. The RUH supports the Spiritual Care of staff, through a Team and a Centre.

The Spiritual Care Team

The team comprises of salaried Chaplains and Spiritual Care Volunteers. Each are pastorally trained, personally committed to spirituality and are connected to a community of practice. The team reflects the breadth of Christian tradition in Cath and surrounding counties, but also the growing significance of other religions and that most people in Britain do not regularly participate in religious activities.

We are networked with religious groups across the region, and can provide contacts for those seeking churches, mosques, synagogues, temples and other religious meeting places.

Someone from the Spiritual Care Team is always available. A chaplain is on-site every day of every week 8.30am to 4.30pm. Outside these hours an urgent on-call service can be access through the RUH switchboard.
