We want all our young patients and their families to have a positive experience whilst at our Trust and to do this we are looking for great people to join our nursing team.

In 2024 you'll be joining us at an exciting time as we continue to develop our services to care for children with a wide range of medical and surgical conditions from 0-18 years. You will deliver care to some of the most vulnerable patients including newly diagnosed diabetics, oncology patients and those in our high dependency area.

We have band 5 Staff Nurse opportunities for experienced nurses, newly qualified nurses and student nurses due to qualify in 2024. If you are a Paediatric Nurse who has an interest in mental health nursing or an Adult Nurse who wants to move into Paediatrics, we'd also love to hear from you.

Opportunities

Why choose to work here?

If you're wondering what a general district hospital has to offer Paediatric Nurses - be assured that you will gain a wealth of clinical skills, training, new qualifications and experiences that you'll be proud to talk of in years to come.

This is a varied role, you'll work across different areas within the department, such as the Paediatric Assessment Unit, which sees referrals from GPs and the Emergency Department, the Day Surgery Room and the 33 bedded inpatient ward, where you will deliver care to some of the most vulnerable patients to include newly diagnosed diabetics, oncology patients and those in our high dependency unit. Having this variety in your role will help you to discover your passion and interests in Paediatrics.

You'll also work with an exceptional team of supportive colleagues as our ward-based team is multi-disciplinary and includes physios, pharmacists, and play specialists.

Developing your talents

You will have lots of unique opportunities for your personal and professional development. If you're a newly qualified nurse who wants to work for a Trust that invests in developing your skills and practice – this is the perfect place to begin your career. As an experienced Paediatric Nurse joining the team, we can offer you access to further learning opportunities to support your professional development so you can take on new roles and challenges.

We support all colleagues so they can broaden their clinical skills throughout their career with us. Our band 5 nurses are encouraged to attend in-house and external study days at the Bristol Royal Infirmary (BRI) and join courses to develop and gaining this development has benefitted many of our colleagues who have gone on to specialise in new, exciting roles.

Band 5 Paediatric Nurse

I joined the department just over a year ago as a newly qualified nurse and thinking about my experience so far, I can't quite believe how confident I've become in just one year.

I've learnt and achieved so much, thanks to my manager and Mark and Terri-Ann, who are our Practice Education Facilitators.

Band 5 Paediatric Nurse

I joined the team in October 2023 as a newly qualified nurse, and I'm loving it. I studied at the University of Surrey, so I didn't have any placements here. I wanted to return to Bath to be with my family, so I applied to join the RUH.

I definitely made the right choice to come here, I had a great welcome, a two week induction and supernumerary period and everyone is really friendly and inclusive towards all staff and the student nurses, which I've really liked, having recently been one myself.

Senior Sister

I've been working here for 34 years. I joined as an adult registered nurse and after three years of service I converted to become a Paediatric Nurse on the Children's ward.

I love working in this department, I've had such a rewarding career. I've been encouraged and supported throughout the years which has seen me progress from a band 5 Paediatrics Nurse, to Junior Sister and now I'm Senior Sister.

Band 5 Paediatric Nurse

I joined in September 2023. I trained in Cardiff and as a newly qualified nurse I wanted to work somewhere that would give me the best opportunity to develop my skills and practice, and the RUH offers just that.

We have a general Paediatrics Department here and there's lots of opportunities to care for a variety of patients. I also got a friendly feel when I first visited the RUH for my interview.
