Clinical Application

Limitations
LDH is affected by haemolysis. Raised LDH results in moderately haemolysed samples will be reported with a cautionary comment indicating that results may be falsely increased by up to 30% in presence of in vitro haemolysis.

LDH concentrations of ≥2000IU/L can falsely increase bicarbonate concentrations by up to 12%. All bicarbonate requests will have an LDH measured and appropriate comment applied to the bicarbonate result where LDH is ≥2000IU/L.
