Clinical Application
hCG can be produced by trophoblast tumors, germ cell tumors with trophoblastic components and some non-trophoblastic tumors. Human chorionic gonadotropin consists of a number of iso-hormones having the same biological activity but with differing molecular size. Elevated hCG concentrations are found in pregnancy and in diseases such as tumors of the ovaries, bladder, pancreas, stomach, lungs and liver.
