Interfering substances = This procedure should be performed with either a serum specimen or citrated plasma or EDTA plasma specimen, since these samples yielded identical results. Lithium and heparin plasma should not be used because they may yield results different than serum. Addition of azide or other preservatives to the test samples may adversely affect the results. Microbially contaminated, heat-treated, or specimens containing visible particulate should not be used. Grossly hemolyzed or lipemic serum or specimens should be avoided.
