TMP/GFR
(a.k.a Tubular Maximum of Phosphate Reabsorption / Glomerular Filtration Rate ratio)
minimum sample volume required ~ 5ml
Test Code: TMU
Other acceptable tube types
Lithium heparin (pale green)
Special instructions
A paired urine sample is also required, a fasting second void urine is the preferred sample (pale yellow vacuette).
24 hour plain urine collection with fasting serum/plasma sample is also acceptable.

Department: Biochemistry
Clinical Application
The ratio of tubular maximum of phosphate reabsorption (TMP) to glomerular filtration rate (TMP/GFR) is primarily used to investigate chronic hypophosphataemia, to establish whether renal phosphate wasting is occurring.
A low TMP/GFR suggests renal phosphate wasting.
