Clinical Application
To exclude assay interference. Indicated in Cushing’s patients on metyrapone treatment where 11-DOC, a cortisol precursor, will be increased. 11-DOC cross-reacts significantly with our laboratory serum cortisol assay.
Note if patient on hydrocortisone (pharmacological cortisol), this cannot be discriminated from endogenous cortisol on immunoassay or LCMS as there is no molecular difference.
