About the Unit and its Facilities
Surgical Short Stay is a purpose built unit. It was opened in 2000 and consists of five operating theatres and a thirty three trolley mixed ward, divided into bays, which we endeavour to make single sex. Children are accommodated in a separate area to the adults.
We believe every patient is a unique individual with social, physical and psychological needs which have to be met.
We are very proud of the care that is provided to all our patients and it is wonderful to receive so many thank you cards and letters of praise.
Over 77% of operations carried out at the Royal United Hospital NHS trust are day cases. This benefits the patient as they can return to their normal home environment as soon as they have recovered from the anaesthetic.
The short hospital stay also minimises disruption to their daily routine and to the lives of family and friends.
We are situated on the first floor above reception at the main entrance (lift available).
Surgical Short Stay provides comfortable areas for patients to wait in.
Some of the facilities available to patients before and after their operation include:
- A television room
- Complimentary biscuits and sandwiches for patients after they have had their operation
