Overview of the department
The Resuscitation Department is based in the Education Centre and is part of the Clinical skills team. We are responsible for developing and delivering training in all aspects of clinical skills, care of the critically ill and resuscitation skills. Together with the Resuscitation Committee we are responsible for policy and procedures relating to resuscitation, defibrillators, resuscitation equipment and audit. We also respond to cardiac arrest calls when able and are involved in investigating critical incidents. We also work together with the clinical audit dept to collect and analyse data for the cardiac arrest audit.

Resuscitation Committee
The Resuscitation Committee meets quarterly and the minutes of each meeting are copied to the Clinical Governance Committee. The chair of the Resuscitation Committee is a consultant with an active and credible involvement in resuscitation and can be contacted via the Resuscitation Dept. Other committee members include the lead resuscitation officer, cardiologist, emergency physician, paediatrician, pharmacist, medical physics representative, and a senior manager.
Training
Resuscitation training is available for all clinical staff. Courses available include:
- In Hospital Resuscitation including Basic Life Support (BLS)
part of clinical core skills day - Paediatric BLS
part of paediatric clinical core skills day or available separately - Immediate Life Support (RCUK)
full course and recertification courses - Automated External Defibrillation (AED) with BLS
