Work Health Assessment

A Work Health Assessment is used to assess an employee's fitness to carry out all aspects of a new role, or to determine any reasonable adjustments, that may be necessary if they have a pre-existing health condition or any health condition which is likely to come under the terms of the Equality Act 2010.

Pre-employment Work Health Assessment *

  • On receipt of a Work Health Assessment questionnaire the Occupational Health Department will undertake screening and provide a response to the Employer regarding the health status suitability for the successful candidate ie. fit for all duties, reasonable adjustments maybe required.
  • Where the health questionnaire raises issues about prospective employees' fitness for employment an assessment will be offered with an Occupational Health Nurse or a medical examination with an Occupational Health Physician.
  • The Occupational Health Department will obtain further information from the individual or GP if there is any doubt regarding fitness to work, subject to consent from the employee, and notify the Employer if further actions are required prior to commencing work.
  • The Occupational Health Department will create an occupational health record and maintain this record, in accordance with Data Protection principles.
  • Immunisations and vaccinations are also available if required for the work role.

* In line with the Equality Act which took effect in October 2010, candidates should not be asked to complete a health questionnaire until after the job offer.

Our new health declaration questionnaire only deals with health, safety and disability issues and does not ask questions which are irrelevant to the job role.

Where there are issues of concern, nurse or physician appointments can be scheduled quickly to help identify areas where employers can offer additional support.

Our experts can recommend reasonable adjustments if necessary, helping employers to comply with legislation.
