Criminal Record Check

Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) clearance and/or overseas police clearance

Everyone needs to have a DBS, the level that you need will depend on your role.  Go to your TRAC action list to complete your DBS application.

We’re happy to accept an existing DBS certificate you may have as long as it’s:

  • at the correct level
  • issued within 3 years, or
  • if you subscribe to the DBS update service.

You will be able to indicate if this applies to you in your TRAC account and we’ll ask you to send this through to us when you emailing your ID documents.

If you have been living and/or working outside of the UK for more than 6 months (either continuously or in total) in the previous five years, you’ll also need a police check from the relevant country/ies.  You will need to obtain this directly from the relevant authorities (we are unable to do this on your behalf) to find out how, click here.

Cost

Police checks are yours to keep and therefore we are unable to pay for these on your behalf.  For DBS checks, we will pay upfront and then ask you to select on your employee form how you’d like to this to be deducted from your salary when you start. Arrangements for overseas police checks depend on each country so please liaise with the relevant authorities directly.

Self Declaration

Honesty and transparency are core elements of the NHS. We therefore also ask that in additional to the police checks outlined about, you complete a self-declaration form to in Trac to give you the opportunity to provide any additional information in support of your application.
