Tonto

At the RUH we can offer a trainee specific learning opportunity, TONTO (Teaching-one-one) which gives you access to 2 hours of consultant led teaching in an area specific to your needs. Please complete the application form and we will be in touch to arrange this session with you.

Dr James Goodliffe is the Postgraduate and Multi-Professional Simulation lead for the Trust. If you feel you would benefit from a particular simulation session or would like to develop a personalised programme to help support you back into training then get in touch to arrange:

Return to training – Ready, Steady, Go!

This course is run virtually at multiple times through the year and covers:

  • Time and space to reflect on recent changes in your own circumstances
  • Explore opportunities and develop an individualised plan to support your return to training
  • The effects of Health, Illness, Stress and Fatigue on Work
  • Learn to manage energy not your time
  • Explore work life balance and develop positive intelligence
  • Strategies for self-care and wellbeing

Events

We are hoping to develop more of an informal buddy system within the RUH to foster a welcoming return to work. We are hoping to run regular meet ups with an activity or just a chat over coffee. If you have any suggestions feel free to get in touch.

Resources

There is a whole wealth of online courses and webinars that you may find useful to support your knowledge refresh.

  • The e-learning hub – this has lots of specialty-specific modules.
  • The Health Education England has developed a set of webinars to support doctors returning to work. There are also some practical tips on returning to work.
  • There is information on DrToolbox which you may find helpful about how wards function, how-to guides for the RUH computer system and much more.

Remember you can discuss with your employer regarding the use of KIT/SPLIT days for any learning you feel necessary. It is stated that any work that enables a trainee to keep in touch with the workplace, whether this is clinical work, local or regional teaching as well as conferences, induction and e-learning. Please see sectin on KiT/SpLiT days to see if you could apply for funding.

Any work that enables a trainee to keep in touch with the workplace, eg. clinical work, local or regional teaching, specialty-specific training courses, generic life support courses, return-to-work courses, conferences, hospital induction, e-learning.

The work must be mutually agreed between the employer and the trainee.

It may be possible to use study leave to undertake work deemed appropriate for KiT and SPLiT day usage.
