ED staff invited to 'thank you' reception by BaNES Chairman

Staff from the Emergency Department (ED) at Bath's Royal United Hospital have been recognised for their outstanding efforts at a special 'thank you' reception hosted by Bath & North East Somerset Council (BaNES) Chairman Cllr Alan Hale.

The event took place on the evening of Wednesday 22 March in the Chairman's room in the Guildhall.

Cllr Hale said, "I'm pleased to have this opportunity to say thank you to the Emergency Department team on behalf of Bath & North East Somerset Council. On a personal level, I understand just how hard the team work to do the amazing job they do, as I was once a community policeman and my wife worked as a nurse at the RUH's Emergency Department for 19 years."

ED Matron Mandy Rumble was at the event, and said: "I am immensely proud of what my team achieves – often under the most intense pressure. This winter was particularly challenging, but as a team we pride ourselves on pulling together and doing all we can to care for the patients who come through our doors. We couldn't do what we do without the wider support of the wards and departments the patients move on to when they leave ED. It really is a team effort on a monumental scale. It is very rewarding to have had those efforts recognised by Chairman Alan Hale at this lovely reception."

Brian Stables Chairman of the RUH said: "ED is effectively the 'front door' of the RUH; when pressure builds in the wider health community, ED staff must be poised to act quickly and calmly for the benefit of our patients. I know, from the many letters I receive, just how much patients and their families appreciate the lengths our staff go to. But it is wonderful to have had the work of our ED staff formally recognised by Chairman Alan Hale on behalf of BaNES Council."
