RUH holds Armistice Day service
Staff and patients gathered to mark Armistice Day today (Friday 11 November) at the Royal United Hospitals (RUH) Bath NHS Foundation Trust, remembering military and civilian sacrifices made in conflicts across the world.
The service, which took place in the garden of the hospital's Spiritual Care Centre, included the two minute silence, readings, the laying of a wreath and the Last Post.
The service was led by Lead Chaplain Narinder Tegally, alongside a number of staff including Director for People and Culture Alfredo Thompson, Chief Nurse Toni Lynch and Chaplain Philip Turner.
The wreath was laid by Macmillan Cancer Information Specialist Nurse Tracy Langton, who is an RAF veteran and member of the Royal Air Forces Association.
Research Sister Sara Burnard, whose grandfathers served in World War I and II, led a reading.
The Last Post was played by Doctor Joseph Barron-Snowdon.
The service is available to view on the RUH's Facebook page, where it was also broadcast live. Earlier this year, the RUH was awarded gold in the Ministry of Defence's Employer Recognition Scheme. This recognises organisations and businesses that employ and support those who serve in the forces, veterans and their families.
The RUH's commitment includes ten extra paid days leave for reservists to attend training, plus supportive policies for veterans, reservists, Cadet Force adult volunteers and spouses and partners of those serving in the Armed Forces.
The RUH has also been awarded Veteran Aware accreditation for its commitment to leading the way in improving NHS care for veterans and members of the armed forces community.
