Overnight for five nights, 7pm - 7am, from Monday 29 July 2024

Bath and North East Somerset Council is closing Combe Park, the main road outside the hospital, overnight for five nights from Monday 29 July for resurfacing works. We are working closely with the council and other organisations to keep disruption to the RUH to a minimum. Emergency and ambulance access will not be impacted, but there are some other changes that you may need to be aware of. The work will be done in three phases.

Phase 1: Monday (29th) & Tuesday (30th) nights, 7pm – 7am

Combe Park will be closed from the south just after the Newbridge Hill junction, up to just before the RUH’s gate 1 entrance.

Emergency access to the Emergency Department (ED) and Maternity: Ambulances and other vehicles with genuine emergency needs will be able to travel through the road closure from either direction to enter as normal through Gate 2.

Patients being picked up from the Emergency Department (ED): Patients will be directed out of an alternative exit, to be picked up outside the RUH main entrance. Drivers will follow the council’s diversion route to enter via gates 3 or 1.

Patients and visitors parking on site: There will be no access into the maternity car park (P4) between 7pm and 7am. Cars already parked in P4 will be able to leave via a diverted route onto Evelyn Road. Other public car parks will be open as usual, but drivers will have to follow the council’s diversion route.

Buses: There will be no bus service to the RUH or other stops on Combe Park after 7pm and before 7am. There is a diversion route in place – see the First Bus website for details.

Staff parking on site: There will be some changes to car park access, including no access to St John’s car park. Please check the intranet homepage or staff brief for details.

Phase 2: Wednesday (31st) & Thursday (1st) nights, 7pm – 7am

The south end of Combe Park will reopen. The north end will be closed from just south of Weston Lane, down to and including the RUH’s gate 1 entrance.
There will be no entry into gate 1 during this phase of works, but vehicles will be able to leave via gate 1 turning right and driving south only.

Emergency access to Emergency Department (ED) and Maternity: Gate 2 will be open as normal. Ambulances and other vehicles with genuine emergency needs will be able to travel through the road closure if needed.

Patients being picked up from the Emergency Department (ED):
Patients will be picked up from the front of ED as normal, however drivers will have to follow the council’s diversion route if travelling from the north.

Patients and visitors parking on site:
Drivers will have to follow the council’s diversion route. There will be access to the maternity car park (P4) as normal, via gate 2. All other public car parks will be accessed via gate 3 – there will be no access into the RUH site via gate 1.
To leave, drivers will leave via gate 1 as normal, but will only be able to turn right and drive south, following the council’s diversion route - gate 3 will continue to be for traffic coming in only.

Buses:
There will be no bus service to the RUH or other stops on Combe Park after 7pm and before 7am. There is a diversion route in place – see the First Bus website for details.

Staff parking on site:
All staff car parks will be open as normal, but drivers will have to follow the council’s diversion route and may need to enter the site from a different gate. Please check the intranet homepage or staff brief for details.

Phase 3: 7pm Friday (2nd) to 7am Saturday (3rd)

The whole of Combe Park will be closed to through traffic. Access to and from the RUH will be open. There may be workers in the road, so please be patient and drive with caution, following instructions given by marshals. Please use Gate 3 from Penn Hill Road to enter the RUH if you can.

Buses: There will be no bus service to the RUH or other stops on Combe Park after 7pm and before 7am. There is a diversion route in place – see the First Bus website for details. If this will cause you any issues, please speak to your manager as soon as you can.
