Meet the team
Once you have had all your tests your case will be discussed at a Multi-Disciplinary Meeting (MDM) which involves the surgeons, oncologists, radiologists, pathologists and the colorectal nurses and the most appropriate plan of care will be finalised.
Consultant Surgeons
Education:
Mr Marc Bullock BM BCH, MA (Oxon), PhD, FRCS. Consultant Colorectal, General and Minimally Invasive Surgeon. Visiting Lecturer, University of Southampton
Mr Bullock gained his medical degree from the University of Oxford. At University Hospital Southampton he combined training in general surgery with 'bench-to-bedside' cancer research and he has published widely on the clinical applications of novel microRNA molecules in colorectal cancer progression. For this work, he was awarded an NIHR Academic Clinical Fellowship and Clinical Lectureship, an MRC Clinical Research Fellowship, a CRUK post-doctoral research bursary and numerous conference prizes.
Following the award of his PhD Mr Bullock pursued post-doctoral research at the MD Anderson Cancer Centre in Houston as a US/UK Fulbright Fellow. On his return to the UK he completed a Clinical Fellowship in Robotic and Pelvic Exenterative Surgery at the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust.

Mr Bullock is passionate about humanitarian surgery having worked for MSF in DR-Congo as well as establishing an essential surgical skills course for resource poor settings in collaboration with the charity Mercy Ships and the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland.

Open and laparoscopic surgery for colorectal cancer; total mesorectal excision; colonoscopy; cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC); gynae-oncology; general proctology and abdominal wall surgery/surgical anatomy.
Mr. Bunni is a Consultant Colorectal and General surgeon at the RUH. He trained in the South West after graduating from the University of Bristol with Honours. He was awarded the "Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland Gold Medal" for obtaining the highest mark in the United Kingdom in his FRCS exit examination. He was awarded his Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in February 2016 and is on the GMC Specialist Register. He also holds a "Diploma in Laparoscopic Surgery".
He completed a one year prestigious Fellowship in "Laparoscopic and Advanced Open Colorectal and Peritoneal Malignancy Surgery" at the Peritoneal Malignancy Institute, Basingstoke. Basingstoke is an Internationally recognised centre of excellence in colorectal and peritoneal malignancy surgery (World's largest centre for pseudomxyoma peritonei and appendiceal tumours). It is also the birthplace of the "Total Mesorectal Excision" operation for rectal cancer.
He has previously been awarded a £32,000 research grant by the Wellcome Trust to investigate the role of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) in Colorectal Cancer. He has published the outcome of this research, as well as 2 dozen other publications in surgery. He has also authored a surgical textbook; recently co-authored the chapter on "Surgery for Rectal Cancer" in the Colorectal Surgery Companion Series (Elsevier) and co-authored an online surgical oncology module. He is an Honorary Lecturer at Cardiff University and has held numerous teaching positions and accolades. He is a reviewer for 12 surgical journals and also research grant applications.

Mr Stephen Dalton,MBBS (distinction) MD, FRCS, dip Lap Surgery, gained his medical degree with distinction from Newcastle University. He was awarded a Medical Doctorate from the University of Bristol and a diploma of laparoscopic surgery from Strasbourg University.

Prior to his appointment as a consultant surgeon at The Royal United Hospital in Bath Mr Dalton spent a year working for the aid agency Medicins san Frontiers in Sierra Leone. Mr Dalton is a LapCo® certified laparoscopic surgeon, is widely published and has an interest in surgical research. Above all, Mr Dalton is passionate about providing the highest quality care for his patients.

Education:
Mr Edward Courtney MB ChB, MD, FRCS (Gen Surg) gained his medical degree from the University of Leeds qualifying in 1996. He was awarded a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of London in 2007. Higher Surgical training was undertaken in London and East Anglia before undertaking a Colorectal Surgical Fellowship in Auckland, New Zealand.

Laparoscopic operations for colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease and pelvic floor disorders. Elective and Emergency General Surgery. Colonoscopy. Proctology and pelvic floor surgery.
Mr Courtney has a special interest in the management of pelvic floor disorders and runs a specialist pelvic floor clinic for patients with functional bowel problems, rectal prolapse and faecal incontinence.

Nurses
A specialist Colorectal Nursing Team provides support and advice for patients diaganosed with bowel cancer.
Located in Grace Penwarden Unit, 2nd floor, Gastro Outpatients Department, RUH Central and they offer:
- Information – verbal and written re: treatment options e.g. surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy
- Emotional support
- A link to the hospital from diagnosis through treatment and follow up
- Practical advice e.g. help with applying for grants and benefits
- Liaison with other healthcare professionals e.g. Stoma Nurses
- Advice re: local support and counselling services
- Referral to community teams if needed
- A link to the weekly multi disciplinary meeting – where a group of specialists plan and agree a programme of treatment which is specific to individual patient needs
