Colorectal Faster Diagnosis

Colorectal Faster Diagnosis Service

The Colorectal Faster Diagnosis service is provided here at the Royal United Hospitals Bath and operates Monday to Friday, but investigations may also take place out of hours or at weekends.

The aim of our service is to ensure that patients referred under the suspicion of bowel cancer undergo all diagnostic tests and receive communication ruling out, or confirming, a cancer diagnosis within 28 days.

Investigations are carried out at the Royal United Hospital Bath and at Sulis Hospital.

Our aim is to provide earlier and faster diagnosis for our patients, whilst supporting the patient experience and ensuring they are assessed holistically and efficiently and that patients are referred for the most appropriate diagnostic investigation.

We work in close contact with the Colorectal Consultants and hold weekly Patient pathway meetings.

Some of our nurses are also Nurse Endoscopists and qualified non-medical prescribers.

We support patients from referral through to diagnosis and if a patient is diagnosed with bowel cancer, then we pass their care onto the Colorectal Nurse Specialists who manage and care for patients with bowel cancer.
