RUH Hospital Bath

Join us for family friendly activities, while learning more about life at your local acute hospital. You'll also be able to grab food and treats around the site.

You will be able to:

  • Meet the emergency services
  • Find out about how we're improving the hospital for you, and give us your feedback
  • Find out about careers in the NHS
  • See how you can support the hospital, from volunteering and fundraising for RUHX to becoming a member
  • Enjoy children's activities and games
  • Grab a bite to eat from our catering outlets

What can I see?

Explore the RUH

  • Art at the Heart: Take a wonder through our hospital corridor to enjoy the Bath Society of Artists Members Exhibition. There is also a display case featuring ceramics from local artist Sally Gardiner.
  • Dyson Cancer Centre: Follow in the footsteps of the Queen, with a look at selected areas of the brand new Dyson Cancer Centre (with thanks to RUHX for the tours)
  • Bath Urban Treescape trails: The team will be sharing the ‘Combe Park Canopy' trail around the site with guided walks, as well as sharing their new dementia-friendly trail, developed with Re:Mind.
  • Wellbeing garden: Explore this beautiful new green outdoor space, which opened earlier in 2024 and was funded by RUHX.

Fun for all the family

  • Children's health, storytelling and role play: Enjoy dressing up and storytime, and find out more about looking after your children's health.
  • Emergency vehicles: Visit a fire engine, see a police car and head over to meet St John's Ambulance. The police will also be offering free bike-marking, so do bring your bike along if you would like to take advantage of this. 
  • Outdoor swimming pool*: Our outdoor pool will be open (weather dependent). There will be lane-free swimming for anyone aged six months or older can enjoy from 1:15 - 3:15pm. At other times, swimmers aged 11+ are welcome to join us for lane swimming sessions. Spaces are limited and need to be booked in advance - please do so here.
  • Riverside Nursery: The team from our on-site nursery will have activities for some of our youngest guests, as well as providing more information about their friendly setting.

Life at the RUH

  • Community Wellbeing Hub: Discover the community services that can support you with your health and wellbeing away from the RUH, and how to access them.
  • CPR Awareness: Learn how to save a life with our CPR demonstrations.
  • Dementia:  In partnership with ReMind, we'll be sharing how we support people living with Dementia, including showcasing activities and resources available.
  • Dietetics: We'll be talking about gut health, and giving budget-friendly tips.
  • Food and drink: Our Friends café, Lansdown Restaurant and Atrium coffee shop will all be open for hot drinks, cakes, light meals and (from the restaurant) larger hot dishes.
  • Health checks: Do you know your blood pressure? Come and get a quick, free check with our heart health team
  • Health Inequalities and social responsibility: What are we doing to make sure that everyone who visits the RUH has equitable experiences of it? We share our new initiatives.
  • Learning disabilities and autism: find out about the resources and support available for people who have a learning disability and autistic people, and what we are doing to improve the experience of being at the RUH. 
  • Maternity: Come by for useful information on careers and pregnancy, and have a go at our fruit-themed game.
  • Members and Governors: Meet out Public Governors to find out more about how they are working to improve the RUH's services for the community, and find out how you can get involved as a member of the RUH. 
  • Mental health: Find out more about strength-based personal care.
  • NHS Careers: Join in with fun games and find out more about the many roles available in the NHS, and which one/s might be right for you.
  • Occupational Therapy: Experience life as an older adult.
  • PAT Dogs: Meet some of our ‘Pets as Therapy' volunteer dogs and their owners, and find out about the amazing work they do at the RUH.
  • Physiotherapy: Take part in our activity analysis and competition!
  • Research and development: Discover more about the exciting research we are undertaking here at the RUH.  
  • RUHX: Our hospital charity share more about how they are raising money to help improve the RUH for our staff and patients, including upcoming events you can take part in.
  • Speech and language adult: Try thicketed mocktails and have a go at our timed ‘swallow test'.
  • Speech and language – paediatric: Find out about writing in phonics, using non-verbal communication and more.
  • Strategy: How do we plan to make Bath one of the healthiest places to live and work? What are we doing to improve the hospital for the benefit of all those who use it? Come and find out.
  • Sustainability: We'll show you how we're making the RUH a greener place, for the benefit of the people we care for, work with and in our community.
