A Clinical Nurse Specialist is a nurse who has specialist experience in cancer care. Our role is to be a keyworker/point of contact for you and your family throughout your treatment at the Royal United Hospital. We can provide psychological support and symptom management advice and are able to signpost you to additional areas of support or refer you to other members of the multi-disciplinary team as required e.g. the dietician and palliative care.
A Cancer Support Worker works closely with and supports the nursing and medical team. Around the time of diagnosis you will be invited to complete a Macmillan Holistic Needs Assessment this assessment can be performed in person or over the telephone. This will help us better understand and meet your individual needs and support you through your treatment.
Where will you be seen?
As we support patients with different types of cancers, the location of your appointment will be confirmed on your appointment letter.
