Diagnosis
Test and investigations help us accurately diagnose and plan treatment for our patients. A doctor or nurse will explain to you the reason for the test, what is involved (including any special preparation) and any potential complications.
Your team will also let you know when you can expect to receive your test results. If you don’t receive them then, please contact the team directly. Before we proceed with any tests or investigations, we will always obtain your consent.
Tests and investigations
CT scans
A CT scan is a test that takes detailed pictures of the inside of your body. It is usually used to diagnose conditions or check how well a treatment is doing.
Endoscopy
An endoscopy is a procedure where the inside of the body is examined internally using an endoscope. An endoscope is a thin, long, flexible tube that contains a light source and a video camera, so that images of the inside of the body can be relayed to a screen. Patients are normally awake during the procedure but can have a sedative if they feel anxious.
Nuclear Medicine Gamma camera imaging
Nuclear Medicine is used to diagnose a variety of diseases, including many types of cancers, heart disease and certain other abnormalities within the body. Most nuclear medicine procedures are performed using a gamma camera, a specialised camera that is capable of detecting radiation and taking pictures from different angles.
