Living with and Beyond Cancer

Holistic Needs Assessment
During your cancer journey you will meet with the Cancer Support Workers who will guide you in completing a Holistic Needs Assessment to help identify any concerns you may have. They will then sign post you to any relevant services or support as required.

Cancer Information and Support Clinic (CISC)
Is a group information and support session for patients, families and carers at or soon after diagnosis. These clinics run for one and half hours most Fridays of the month. Topics include: What is cancer? treatment and side effects, Emotional support, Diet and exercise, Managing fatigue. To book a place please contact the Cancer Information and support Centre on 01225 824049 or email ruh-tr.cancersupport@nhs.net

Health and Wellbeing Events
When your treatment is completed the Cancer Information and Support Centre will invite you to Health and Wellbeing Event this is a half day event and includes sessions on diet, exercise, fatigue, psychological support and the opportunity to speak to a cancer nurse specialist or other health professional.

Support groups

We run a wide range of regular free support groups in the Dyson Cancer Centre. Join others for support and advice over refreshments, with sessions facilitated by our cancer support team. No booking needed, just turn up and head to the Dyson Cancer Centre reception desk for directions. If you have any queries please contact the team:

  • Lymphoma Support Group
    First Thursday of the month, 10.30am - 12 noon
    Support group for anyone with a diagnosis of lymphoma
  • Gynae Support Group
    Second Tuesday of the month, 10.30am - 12 noon
    Support group for anyone with gynaecological cancer at any stage
  • Breast Cancer Now
    First Tuesday of the month, 10.30am - 12 noon
    This is a group facilitated by a counsellor from the Breast Cancer Now charity, for secondary breast cancer patients only.
  • Mesothelioma Support Group
    Third Friday of the month, 11am - 12.30pm
    Support group for anyone living with mesothelioma
  • Stoma Support Group
    Second Thursday of the month, 10.30am - 12 noon
    Support group for anyone who has a stoma due to their cancer. This session is joined by one of our specialist stoma nurses.
  • Living with a Long-term Colorectal Cancer Support Group
    Third Wednesday every two months, 5.30 - 7pm
    Support group for anyone living with a long-term colorectal cancer. Contact 01225 824049 or ruh‑tr.cancersupport@nhs.net to find out when the next group is meeting.
  • Prostate Support Group
    Second Friday of the month, 10am - 12 noon
    Support group for anyone with a prostate cancer diagnosis
  • Prostate Active Surveillance Support Group
    Last Tuesday of the month, 10.30am - 12 noon
    Support group for patients who have chosen active surveillance for their prostate cancer
  • Armed Forces and Veterans Support Group
    Last Thursday of the month, 10am - 12 noon
    Support group for anyone who is serving, or who has served, in the Armed Forces and has any cancer diagnosis
  • 20s and 30s Support Group
    Last Thursday of the month, 5.30 - 7pm
    Support group for anyone aged in their 20s or 30s with any cancer diagnosis
  • Citizens Advice
    Every Wednesday and alternate Fridays, 10am - 2pm
    This is a drop-in session for any queries relating to finances, run by a member of the Citizens Advice team
  • Look Good Feel Better Workshop
    Last Monday of the month, 10.30am - 12.30pm
    This workshop provides help and advice on skincare and make-up for people with a cancer diagnosis. Booking is needed, please contact 01225 824049 or ruh‑tr.cancersupport@nhs.net
  • Caring for someone with cancer
    First Monday of the month, 10.30am - 12 noon
    Support group for family members and friends caring for someone with any cancer diagnosis. Patients do not attend.
