Research and Quality Improvement

Our ICU is actively involved in numerous research projects, to help improve the experience of patients, the outcomes from critical illness and to support international and national studies. We have several internationally renowned academics in our department, and this helps drive our enthusiasm and focus for research.

Research is important, to find better ways to care for seriously ill patients. Research helps us improve treatments, develop new technologies, and make sure patients receive the best possible care.

Since ICU patients often have life-threatening conditions, our studies focus on making treatments safer and more effective. This research could involve testing new medicines, improving equipment, or studying how the body responds to critical illness.

How this might affect you

We may ask patients or their relatives if they would like to take part in a study. All research follows strict safety and ethical guidelines to protect patients. By taking part, patients and families can help improve future care for others in similar situations.
