About the Ward

Medical Short Stay is an 18-bed unit situated on the first floor in Zone C (C20) one floor above the Lansdown Restaurant. Our state-of-the-art ward is sub-divided into four 4-bed areas plus two isolation rooms, each with an en-suite shower and toilet.

The ward specialises in patients admitted with low-risk chest pain. Other patients are also admitted with a variety of medical conditions who can be treated and discharged within 1 to 2.5 days.

Our ward philosophy is to care for each of our patients as an individual, providing a supportive environment that promotes independence and dignity and the highest standards of clinical treatment.

Working closely with A&E and the Medical Assessment Unit, we have daily consultant rounds and fast track investigation slots to manage and treat our patients quickly and safely ready for discharge home.

Meals and Drinks

There is a choice of menus and we also cater for special dietary needs. Meal times are approximately as follows:

  • Breakfast 7-8am
  • Lunch 12 noon - 1pm
  • Supper 5pm

Personal Belongings

  • We request that all of your medication from home are brought in, we keep these locked at your bedside
  • We suggest you do not bring valuables into hospital. A small amount of money may be useful if you want to buy newspapers. We encourage your family to check that you have enough clothing, slippers or shoes, toiletries and towels
  • We regret that flowers are not permitted on Medical Short Stay
  • To minimise disturbance to fellow patients we ask that patients & visitors switch mobiles to silent mode (ie. no ring tones)

The hospital cannot accept responsibility or any liability for cash, valuables or personal property brought into hospital unless these are handed to the ward for safekeeping and an official receipt issued. We would encourage you to ask your family or relatives to take your valuables home for safekeeping.
