Prostate Cancer
Prostate Cancer
The Urology Department at the Royal United Hospital specialises in the investigation and treatment of prostate cancer.
Prostate cancer generally affects men over 50 but can be found in younger men. It is the most common type of cancer in men with around 34 000 men diagnosed with the disease each year.
It differs from most other cancers in that small areas of cancer within the prostate are very common and may stay dormant (inactive) for years.
A small proportion of men will have prostate cancer that grows more quickly and in some cases can spread to other parts of the body.
