Risk Factors

Increasing age is the biggest risk factor for developing prostate cancer.  Having said that, many elderly men will have slow growing tumours that do not need treating.

Men who have a family history of prostate cancer (a close male relative that has suffered with the disease) are at higher risk of developing prostate cancer especially if a father or brother had the disease under the age of 60 or more than one man in the family has suffered with prostate cancer.

Black African and black Caribbean men are at greater risk of developing prostate cancer.  Asian men have a lower risk.
