Joint Rheumatology Clinic

The Combined Respiratory/Rheumatology Clinic

This clinic has been running since 1999. It is held once per month at the RUH. Patients are seen by the consultant respiratory physician and Dr John Pauling, consultant rheumatologist.

Patients with the rarer connective tissue diseases who have lung involvement are seen in this clinic: mainly scleroderma, polymyositis, dermatomyositis, SLE and Primary Sjogren's Syndrome. (Patients with rheumatoid arthritis and lung involvement are seen in the general respiratory clinics).

The clinic acts as a tertiary referral clinic, with patients referred by local respiratory and rheumatology services and also from further afield, mainly the south west of England and Wales. Lung function tests and six-minute walk tests are carried out prior to patients being seen by the clinical team.
