Pulmonary Hypertension Service
Pulmonary Hypertension Service
The RUH provides a regional satellite Pulmonary Hypertension (PH) service in collaboration the Royal Free, London. Patients are typically referred from across the South West and are seen in a 'one stop' clinic where they will normally have full lung function tests, a walk test, a CT scan, an ECG, an echo and a consultation.
Depending upon the results of this consultation they may need to undergo cardiac catheterisation at the RUH at a later date to confirm or refute a final diagnosis of PH. Those patients for which PH-specific therapy is recommended will then be managed by both the RUH and the Royal Free together - in practice though almost all clinic visits will take place at the RUH as the Royal Free visit to carry out joint clinics on a regular basis.
