Urgent Treatment Centre

The Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) is for patients who have an urgent need to see a GP or practitioner but whose illness or injury is not life-threatening and does not require a visit to the Emergency Department.

If you believe an illness or injury to be life-threatening, call 999.

Accessing the Urgent Treatment Centre

The UTC is located adjacent to the Emergency Department and shares the same entrance.

The UTC at the RUH is open between the hours of 8am and 10pm, 7 days a week.

Patients can attend the UTC where they will be seen by a UTC practitioner and directed to the most appropriate service. This could include remaining in the UTC, your own GP, a minor injuries unit, a pharmacy or another service within the hospital.

These services will be able to provide the most appropriate level of care that has been identified by the UTC practitioner.

Links to these other services can be found below.

To find out if a visit to the UTC is appropriate or to access the Out of Hours GP service, please visit 111 online or call 111 if no access to the internet.

You will be given advice over the phone or online and, where required, advised to attend the UTC, receive a home visit or a telephone consultation with a GP.
