X-Ray

GP Referrals

Due to Covid and the need to keep both patients and staff safe, all plain x-ray examinations are now arranged on an appointment-only basis. If the referral is urgent, this should be indicated on the referral. Appointments will be made Monday to Friday (excluding Bank Holidays), 8.30am to 4.15pm.

Emergency Department

A 24 hour, 7 day a week, Radiology service is provided for the Emergency Department (ED) for accident and trauma patients.

Fluoroscopy

All fluoroscopy procedures are booked via appointment only, between 9am and 5pm, Monday to Friday (excluding Bank Holidays).

CT and MRI

The Radiology Department has 3 CT scanner and 3 MRI scanners. The department operates an outpatient service by appointment Monday-Friday, and most weekends.

Ultrasound

There are two Ultrasound departments located within the Royal United Hospital, Bath. The General Ultrasound department is situated within the Main Radiology Department in Zone B (B7) and a second site within the Princess Anne Wing of the hospital in Zone D (D3). Both Ultrasound departments are open from 9am to 5pm on weekdays (excluding Bank Holidays), on an appointment only basis.

Ultrasound performed on the Princess Anne Wing site is predominantly Obstetric and Gynaecological.

Ultrasound examinations are also performed at Chippenham, Trowbridge and Frome Community Hospitals on an appointment only basis.
