About us
Our Pelvic Health team is made up of physiotherapists who specialise in the treatment of pelvic floor problems.
Problems with your pelvic floor muscles can lead to:
- Leaking urine
- Leaking poo/wind
- Bladder or bowel urgency
- Constipation
- Pelvic organ prolapse
- Pelvic pain
What should you expect?
At your first appointment, one of our Pelvic Health Physiotherapist will ask a number of questions to understand your needs and concerns. In some cases, an internal examination may be offered. With the information gained from the assessment, the physiotherapist will explain their findings to help you understand your condition/problem.
In addition, a treatment programme will be developed that you will be able to complete at home. You may require a follow-up appointment (these could be face-to-face or telephone calls).
Internal examinations
By doing a vaginal or rectal examination, your clinician will be able to identify any problems you are having with your pelvic floor which may be causing your symptoms. They will then be able to teach you how to do your pelvic floor exercises correctly. If you chose not to have an internal examination your clinician will still be able to offer advice and alternative ways of helping you. Internal examination is only done with your full consent. The clinician will talk you through each part of the examination and you can ask to stop at any time if you are not comfortable.
Your clinician can answer any further questions or concerns you might have relating to these matters.
Chaperones
A chaperone is a trained member of staff, who has an understanding of what the examination will entail. You are very welcome to request a chaperone to be present if you would like one for your internal examination or for your appointment in general.
We would appreciate as much notice as possible of this to ensure someone is made available at your appointment time. Please call us on 01225 821241 to arrange this.
Where will I be seen?
In the ground floor of the Brownsword Therapies Centre (F1). Please check in with reception on arrival. It is recommended to leave plenty of extra time for parking.
