Diagnostic Tests

Here at the Vascular Studies Unit we perform a variety of non-invasive investigations on your arteries and veins to assess your circulation. This helps the medical teams responsible for your care diagnose your condition and plan any necessary treatment or onward specialist referrals.

These investigations predominantly involve the use of ultrasound and gel on the skin, used most commonly in pregnancy to image babies. You may however visit us for a simple blood pressure or walking test to assess the condition of the circulation at your feet.

Ultrasound investigations include:
  • Arterial scans
  • Varicose vein scans
  • Carotid artery scans
  • Temporal artery scans
  • Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) assessments
  • Surveillance of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms
  • Surveillance of Endovascular Aortic Repair (EVAR)
  • Surveillance of arterial bypass grafts
Other investigations:
  • Ankle Brachial Pressure index test
  • Toe pressure index test
