Trauma Assessment Unit (TAU)

About the Unit

The Trauma Assessment Unit care for patients with complex injuries and conditions that need specialist orthopaedic input and treatment. The on-call team can accept referrals to the unit from GP practices, minor injuries units and the Emergency Department for assessment and investigation if deemed appropriate for the unit.

Local anaesthetic hand surgeries are performed in the treatment room in the unit.

Opening Times

7am – 8pm, seven days a week, other than Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

The Team

The team consists of an on-call consultant, registrar and SHO doctor or an advanced orthopaedic practitioner.

They are supported by nurses, nursing assistant practitioners and senior healthcare assistants/trainee nurse associates.

The team is also supported by colleagues in ED, X-ray and MRI and CT departments, plus plaster technicians, other orthopaedic consultants, associate specialists, staff grade doctors and orthopaedic nurse practitioners.
