Bob's Boxes
The FLF Team can deliver a 'Bob's Box' for patients that are Registered Blind. The resources are aimed at improving safety and Patient Experience whilst in hospital.
A 'Bob's Box' contains, a radio with headphones, a talking clock, a memo maker, a plate guard, cup holder, a non-slip table mat and Velcro dots.
If you would like to order a Bob's Box for a loved one in hospital that is Registered Blind do call the FLF Team on 07825 573365 or 07900 775259.
The initiative was started because of a blind man called Bob, who prior to his death, had a stay in another hospital and spoke of how isolated and alone he felt. His family decided they wanted to do something to help in his memory. They donated the funds for 'Bob's Boxes.'
So, it is thanks to Bob's family we have these boxes as a small step towards improving the patient experience of our blind patients, creating a safer environment for them and raising greater public awareness of the situation that are faced by many with this disability.
Who was Bob?
Bob was diagnosed with Retinitis Pigmentosa in his early 40s. His eyesight slowly deteriorated. Then, when he was 67, it fully went, leaving Bob completely blind. Despite this Bob continued to work until he was 67 and enjoyed many holidays, both at home and abroad, which he was able to see through his wife's eyes.
Bob loved sport, especially football and horse racing, which he listened to on his radio, every day.
