Staying in Hospital

Discharge Lounge

On the day of your discharge from hospital, you may be transferred to the Discharge Lounge while you wait for medication or collection by relatives or friends, or a package of care.

Located in Building E6, on the ground floor and open from 7.30am to 10.00pm every day, the Discharge Lounge is a dedicated area for patients who are well enough to leave hospital but are waiting for transport or for medicines to take home.

It provides a safe and comfortable environment staffed by qualified nurses and healthcare assistants. Staff in the Discharge Lounge work with ward staff and Pharmacy colleagues to ensure your safe discharge from hospital.

Free parking is available directly outside the Oasis building (E6) for those collecting patients from the Discharge Lounge. Please remember to provide the licence plate number to staff on the Discharge Lounge welcome desk to be exempt from charges.

Going to the Discharge Lounge

On the day of your discharge, you'll be collected with your belongings and brought to the hub. This is likely to be in the morning, from 9am onwards.

Where relevant, the ward staff will advise your carers or relatives that you will be collected from the Discharge Lounge, rather than the ward.

A nurse will help in organising any medication you have been prescribed to take home, and provide information and advice before you leave.

Facilities in the hub include:
  • Comfortable chairs or beds
  • Hot and cold drinks
  • Meals
  • Books, newspapers and magazines
  • Games and jigsaws
  • Television
  • Toilets
