RUH Redevelopment Plan

Your RUH is changing

Over the past ten years we have completed some major building projects to make the RUH Fit for the Future.

We've made significant improvements through refurbishment and upgrading work – and built some amazing new buildings that provide modern facilities and services we can be proud of.

Our new RNHRD and Brownsword Therapies Centre opened in September 2019, allowing us to clear the site ahead of construction of the Dyson Cancer Centre

We've already successfully completed some major redevelopment projects, including:

Bernard Ireland House is an extended and refurbished former residential building that is now home to the Bath Centre for Pain Services.
It provides specially-designed residential accommodation and group treatment areas, and separate accommodation for patients attending Ankylosing Spondylitis or Complex Regional Pain Syndrome residential programmes.
The Wolfson Centre has been extended to house the new Research and Clinical Trials Centre, providing office and clinical accommodation for RUH and RNHRD research teams.
Facilities include five new spacious and clinic/examination rooms for research patients and volunteers, new consulting and resource rooms and refurbished patient waiting space.

Our new RNHRD and Brownsword Therapies Centre is close to the main entrance of the RUH. It is an outpatient centre providing treatment, care and education for patients to recover from episodes of illness or injury, or to manage their long-term condition.
The centre was officially opened by HRH The Dutchess of Cornwall:

Our new temporary decant ward is in place, creating the space to allow another 16 wards, one at a time, to move while they are upgraded and refurbished.

A new Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery and Orthodontic Department (OMFS) positioning us as a 'Centre of Excellence' for conditions of the head and neck, including cancer.

We've built a new Spiritual Care Centre to replace our former Chapel – a space for reflection and prayer for people of all faiths or none.

Built a new Pharmacy facility to provide a more efficient and integrated service for inpatients and a range of community hospitals.

Built a new state-of-the-art Pathology Laboratory and Mortuary at the heart of the hospital, to replace our outdated facility and streamline processes.

We have built a new 300-space car park and introduced a new computerised parking payment system, with free access for disabled drivers who register with us.

Built a new, award winning Information Management and Technology building, to house our Medical Records and IM&T teams and allow them to work more closely together.

Opened our award-winning £6.1 million Dyson Neonatal Care Unit to provide a beneficial healing environment for babies and reduce stress levels experienced by their parents.
